A bit Charlot, a bit Keaton, a bit Clodette Colbert, a bit Chagall‘s flying bride, the men and women who are the characters of “Istruzioni per rendersi infelici” bustle about their lives on an empty stage, dark, noisy as the world is. Dressed with black and yellow stripes like the crash test dummies, the four dancers of Atacama … have human faces, too human.
They rule and obey, pair off and fight, interacting in a mechanic way, therefore with a comic effect, showing as in daily gestures and emotions it is possible to be firmly determined to be unhappy …
Regarding the choreography, the acrobatics is made normal and inserted in daily gestures. The most original and interesting effect in raising reflections on human life, is the insertion of bodies looking for unattainable pleasure in a fluid, fast, not painful and surely effectively unhappy Tetris.
Like … a Keaton, the characters of “Istruzioni” don’t fight a bad world but fight miserably against the exploded shadows on stage, metaphors for their mind.
